The Life and Times of Baby Lightner

-the sexiest fetus the world has every seen!

Hi Everyone, my name is Lawson Banks Lightner! July 3, 2010

That’s right, Mommy and Daddy found out I’m a little boy! My ultrasound went great. I was gulping down fluid, got a crazy case of the hiccups then I was bouncing around and feeling everything within arms reach ๐Ÿ™‚ They got an amazing DVD of the whole thing that they shared with the family at my big reveal party! Here are a couple pictures that they got… I love you all and can’t wait to meet you!

My Mom’s new blog! June 29, 2010

Hey ๐Ÿ™‚ My Mom is starting a new blog just for her (on BlogSpot, because she likes that she can get cuter layouts than wordpress has.) So here it is:

http://www.julietlightner.blogspot.com

She’ll talk about the pregnancy, but more candid- nitty gritty stuff. She’ll also include whatever else she feels like that she can’t write about here.

Follow her and enjoy!

Week 17… Fat starts to accumulate (Hopefully it doesn’t all go to my hips!) June 28, 2010

Hey everyone! This week I’m in my 17th week and Mommy has finally definitely started to feel me move around. It’s very light, and she says it feels a little like a fish swimming and bumping around her tummy, but she loves it! At Daddy’s race Saturday night when he turned the car on I was bouncing around quite a bit- so she thinks I like it ๐Ÿ™‚ She mostly feels me move at night and she really can’t wait until I’m a little bigger and I start giving her real kicks. She’s also really excited for Daddy to be able to feel me from the outside!

Here’s my fruit comparison for the week…

And here is what a cross-section of my Mom would look like…

No wonder her belly is getting bigger!

Here is a run-down of what I’m up to in here…

  • The umbilical cord is growing thicker and stronger.
  • Fetus weight is just over 5 ounces (150g).
  • Baby is about 5 inches (14cm) long crown to rump.
  • and would be about 9 inches (23cm) head to toe, if it could stretch out.
  • The retina has become sensitive to light.
  • The first stools (meconium) are now beginning to accumulate.

17 weeksThey recycle the amniotic fluid by swallowing up to a litre a day. Meconium (composed of products of cell loss, digestive secretion and swallowed amniotic fluid), is accumulating in the bowel. Fat stores begin to develop under your baby’s skin this week. The fat will provide energy and help keep your baby warm after birth.

Baby’s eyes are looking forward now, but they are still firmly closed. The skeleton is tranforming from cartilage to bone. The bones remain flexible to make the journey through the birth canal easier. You can feel your uterus just below your bellybutton. If you put your fingers sideways and measure, it is about two finger-widths (1 inch) below your bellybutton. Your uterus is the size of a cantaloupe.

The crown to rump length of your growing baby is 5 to 5.6 inches (12.5 to 14cm) by this week. Weight of the fetus is about 5.25 ounces (150g).

Woah! With so much growing no wonder Mom only feels me once in a while… this development stuff is tough work!

Now, some of you may know (because my Mom can’t shut up about it) but if you don’t; THIS FRIDAY my Mom and Dad are having an elective ultrasound done to find out if I’m Lawson or Evelyn! Their appointment is at Womb with a View at 12:30! Friday night they are inviting family and close friends over to their house for dinner and a super cool reveal party ๐Ÿ™‚ My Mom thinks she’s going to bake a cake and have the inside either be blue or pink. (She loves cake, this is a good excuse). Then she will take a picture of a slice and put it up on here and on her Facebook for everyone to find out ๐Ÿ™‚

I have to get going… she needs to get some lunch and clean up around the house. Talk to you all soon! 4 Days until I find out what my name is!!!

Love you!

Wow, my Mom is about to get the boot from updating my blog! In her defense, today’s the first day she isn’t really sick, but come on lady! I’m in here growing and changing and no one knows!

Right now, she is in her 15th week! Here’s my fruit comparison…

An orange! Maybe that’s why she likes OJ so much right now ๐Ÿ™‚ (The beverage, not the murderer- er, “alleged murderer” so my lawyers will be happy).

Here’s an obstetrician’s model of what I would look like if Mom would hold me in her hand right now!

However, I’m not all wrapped up like that! No, no, no… I am moving and shaking. Mom can feel little flutters at night when she lays down- but I’m not big enough for real kicks yet.

Well, she is going to have to update this again on Thursday, so I’ll talk to ya then!

11 weeks, 1 day… Mommy is slacking! May 21, 2010

Hey everyone!

Mommy has been feeling really sick lately, thanks to me and the entourage of hormones I bring to the party, so she hasn’t been good at updating.

Right now, I’m heading into week 12. Mom is SUPER excited, because at the end of this week, she will be in her 2nd trimester! At that point, the chance something happening to the pregnancy goes down to 1% and stays that low until I’m born! Mom’s probably not going to stop worrying until I’m born (and most likely won’t stop worrying even then… in fact it’ll get worse!).

So, let’s get to the good stuff! Here I am…

And here is the fruit comparison

The growth of the babyโ€™s head slows down considerably by the end of this week.ย  The brain has the same structure it will have at birth, although it will be quite larger.ย ย Hair is beginning to grow on the babyโ€™s head now and teeth are forming as well as taste buds and vocal cords.

The intestines are beginning to contract as if they were digesting food and are moving from theย umbilical cord into the body cavity.ย  A large portion of the amniotic fluid will be the babyโ€™s urine from this point on as the kidneys begin to excrete urine.

Here’s a cool cross-section of a pregnancy at week 11-12!

Cool! Oh, and she also wanted to share this… Look at how everything inside her gets so squished when I’m growing! That’s why she already has a little belly. It’s not me yet, but her uterus is approximately the size of a small cantaloupe already, and it’s pushing her intestines up and around. Weird!

That’s crazy (and it looks painful!). Well, she’s gotta go get some work done. I’m going to keep growing away. She and Daddy are still listening to my heartbeat every night, and it’s nice and strong! It’s so calming for her to hear ๐Ÿ™‚

Love you all! See you soon!

May 11, 2010… Thumpity, thumpity, thumpity…. May 18, 2010

So, Mommy finally went ahead and bought a fetal heart doppler for at home! She spent $65 on Amazon.com, and it was the best $65 she has ever spent!

The doppler came on May 11th, and Mommy and Daddy got to hear my tiny little heart beating away on that day!

It has been in the 170’s- 180’s which is where it should be ๐Ÿ™‚ Now, Mom and Dad listen to my heart every night before they go to bed. It’s like music to their ears โค

Sometimes though, I play hard to get and hide in her pelvis! Oh I love messing with them!

Oops- Mommy has pregnancy brain!

So, my Mom likes to think she’s a pretty well educated, intelligent person. Then, she makes stupid mistakes and she thinks, “Duuuh, why didn’t I realize that?!?”. She was surfing on a pregnancy forum, and someone explained that when you’re looking up fetal development, you actually look at the week AHEAD of where you are, because otherwise you are actually looking at what has already happened. Duh! So- her updates have really been a week behind this whole time. Woopsie! (Any pregnant lady will tell you that you start to feel like the baby is eating your brain, and that’s what she’s sticking too, darnit!).

SO- here is what I’m ACTUALLY looking like this week! You see, I already have 9 weeks done, so as of 9 weeks, 1 day…I need to know what week 10 looks like because that’s technically where I am!

Here is a model of what a fetus like me looks like in comparison to someone’s hand…

This is how big my feet are right now! So cute!

Well, she is behind in posting, so now she has to make a post about hearing my heartbeat, and then she needs to write about week 10/11!

Love you all! Xoxo

My name is Baby Lightner… and I am a fetus. May 6, 2010

Hey Guys and Girls!

Today, Mom is 9 weeks into her pregnancy! Today, I graduate from being an embryo to being a fetus! My digits are all formed, my arms have elbows and my legs have knees and ankles. I am likely to be about 1.2″ long considering that I was just under 1″ a few days ago. I grow quick, up to 2-3 mm per day! Here’s a pic of how I look in here…

Also, here’s a pic of my ultrasound on Monday… I measured at 8 weeks 6 days!

And as for the fruit comparison…

Well, thanks for keeping up with me! Mom has another appointment on June 8th, where she and Daddy will get to hear my heartbeat on a doppler! ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, and for an update on how my Mommy is doing… she is still nauseated, but the meds are still keeping her from getting really sick, and her pants are getting snug! Hehehe! She is still down 3 pounds from being so sick… so she can gain up to 8 pounds in the next 4 or 5 weeks and still be on track for healthy weight gain- but her uterus is the size of a small melon now! Meanwhile, I am weighing in this week at 1 oz! ๐Ÿ™‚

See you all soon!

Hey 8 weeks! April 30, 2010

Hi All!

Mommy has been SUPER busy with my foster brother Bones, so she hasn’t had much time to update my blog, but she has reached a new week so she has to!

She loves that picture of me (well, not actually me but a representation of me!) because she thinks it looks like an evil fetus plotting to take over the world! It reminds her of one of her favorite baby’s; Stewie!

And now, ladies and gentlemen… it’s time for the main event… my Mommy’s belllll-yyyyyy. Nope, she does not have a ‘baby bump’ per se. However, one of the super fun symptoms of pregnancy is bloat. AND, the biggest side effect of that sweet drug Zofran that she has to take 3 times/ day or she feels like she’s dying is; constipation. Hey, making a baby isn’t always pretty. So, she has this awesome bloat belly going on! BUT- I’m in there somewhere, so she doesn’t feel bad sportin’ it ๐Ÿ˜›

***Also, please refrain from commenting about how her cherry blossom tree is going to look like more of a redwood tree until the time this is all said and done. Because if you think that, you obviously know nothing about tattoos. It will go back to normal and it will be just as pretty as it ever has been. ‘Cept my Mommy is going to take more pride in it after I’m here because any mark that’s left will just be a reminder of me :-)***

She’s tired, she needs to go to bed. ‘Gnight all! xoxoxo

7 Weeks :-) April 22, 2010

Hey Everyone!

Man, I have been SO busy for the past 6 weeks… I wish I could relax a little here in the 7th. Unfortunately, I doubt that’s going to happen! First, the good stuff; here’s what I look like this week!

I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but TOOT! TOOT! I am just too cute! Now for the fruit comparison…

A blueberry! I have DOUBLED my size since last week! Here is a run-down of what’s going on with me this week;

* Hands and feet are emerging from developing arms and legs. Digits aren’t separated yet, so they look more like little paddles.

* The small tail the embryo has is shrinking, and will be gone within the next few weeks.

* There are eyelid folds partially covering those little peepers (which already have a little bit of color!)

* Baby has the tip of it’s tiny nose… and there are tiny veins beneath parchment-thin skin.

* Both hemisphere’s of the brain are growing.

* The liver is churning out red blood cells until bone marrow forms and takes over that role.

* The appendix and pancreas are in place (and in working order, but not being used quite yet).

* The yolk sac has been absorbed, and the placenta has taken over nourishing the baby!

As for my Mommy;

* The uterus has doubled in size.

* She’ll probably be peeing more than usual (thanks to increased blood volume and extra fluid being processed by her kidneys).

* By this time, she already has 10% more blood than she did before she got pregnant! (By the end of pregnancy, she will have 40-45% more!- that’s what’s needed to support a full term baby!).

* Morning sickness (or ALL DAY sickness <3) is at it’s peak, but should subside by 14-15 weeks.

Whew! That’s a lot happening! Thankfully, my Mom has been resting much better since the Dr gave her the medicine to help with her nausea- and she is eating a lot better, too ๐Ÿ™‚ She cleaned more stuff out of my room with the help of Grandma Parrish this evening, and she really hopes that they (well, my Daddy) can start fixing the holes in the walls this Sunday. She also got a cool surprise from my Grandma and Pappy Parrish; they brought over a couple of her favorite books when she was a little girl! Over the next few weeks, she will post about them to see if they jog anyone else’s memory ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, it’s her bedtime… hopefully Daddy will be in from the garage soon. Love you all, see you in about 231 days! Xoxoxo
